My new toys

Beitrag von MichaelZWilliamson » Fr 4. Jun 2010, 04:10

CZ52, largely unused

Bild

Stevens Model 325, 1887 mfr. Legally not a firearm (since it was made before 1899), so it can be mailed. I'll probably retrofit modern barrels for better loads. The action is like a bank vault.

Interesting pieces!

I´d probably leave the stevens as is for her "historical value" though she´s probably not that valuable from my understanding. There are Stevens out there that are worth a thousand dollars and more, but i´m pretty darn shure you wouldn´t even think about playing around with her if she was one of the quite valueable models?!

I think she looks very nice and classy as is and i´m afraid a new set of barrels would take much of her character away...

I'd keep the old barrels. They just snap in place. I'll just make a second set of barrels for modern loads. I have to make a new stock as that one is cracked and badly repaired (Wood screws). I'll probably make a larger and more modern fore end, too.

It doesn´t look that beaten on the pics, but in rather nice condition for it´s age. But i´ll take your word on it.
I wasn´t under the impression you´d just go ahead and throw away the barrels, i just think it will look odd with the new barrels installed.Maybe you already thought something up like aging the new set of barrels so they fit nicely in with the old parts.

But if it´s already cracked up for good and needs a fix anyway, then go ahead! I´d sure as hell would like to see the end result!

I'm pretty sure, and confirming, that those barrels will only take black powder loads, not modern loads.

I'll get a used set of modern barrels and fit them to the action.

If they ever pass a One Gun A Day Law, I'm fucked.

This Stevens 219 is in .30-30 and will also interchange with the dozen shotgun barrels I have. I put them together in kits with a set of rifle, 12, 16, 20 and .410 for different needs. They pack small disassembled, too. I've seen them go for $400. This was at $230 and we settled at $210, tax included.

If someone throws a deal at me, I take it. This Smith Second Model .38 could be their best advertisement. 130 years old and the action is still crisp, tight and clean. Someone renickeled it, but I'm a shooter, not a purist. It was cleanly and professionally done, and the action works great. It holds Antique status and is therefore exempt from all the usual firearm laws. Break top adds 5 man points. I stole it for $165.

There's a Stevens takedown 12 gauge pump I have my eye on for tomorrow.

I have 8 more Mosin Nagants arriving in a couple of weeks, a Webley Mk VI, a Garand, and a Stevens take down 12 gauge pump.

The Smith 2nd Model started fine, then jammed as the poor re-nickel peeled. Once I cleared a couple of flakes, it functioned flawlessly again. Adequate accuracy--15cm at 5 m offhand. For a pocket pistol completely exempt from US and IN firearm laws, it's not bad, especially at the price. A bit less powerful than my .380, but easily fits in a pocket. Ammo is $20/50 and in production.

The Stevens 219 shoots well enough. I'll need to tune the sights. I'll also need to mic it to find what's different between it and the 94, 94B and 220. The barrels should interchange but don't quite.

My Arisaka T99 has a rough bolt I'll need to clean up, and will probably be more accurate once I replace the missing handguard. Ammo's a pain to find, in 7.7mm Japanese.

I haven't fired the T38 Arisaka in 6.5 Japanese because I can't find ammo locally and the price is $$$. $35 for 20.

I've almost finished a newer, broader fore end for the Stevens 325, and will get some brass cased black powder loads for the old barrels, before I fit new barrels.

I'm picking up the 8 Mosin Nagants in mid July.

I've got a Garand being inspected. Central American re-import and the muzzle is .320ish, BUT, the rifling is in good shape, so there's a slim chance it was rebarreled in 8mm. That would be unusual and sweet.

I'm on the lookout for a Taurus .22 for my daughter, and a small double shotgun for my son.

I'm ready to test fire my 71/84 Mauser as soon as I get some ammo loaded. $65 for 20.

I'll be ordering a custom upper for my AR carbine in a week.

August, I have budgeted for a Stevens 12 gauge pump takedown, cut to 48cm barrel. It'll pack in my gym bag for travel.

I still need a GLOCK.
