Dear Sir,
Thank you for your message sent last 21st of November, drawing my attention on the revision of the Firearms Directive. As you are probably aware, this dossier is still being negotiated between the main European institutions: the Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. The text resulting from these negotiations will be voted by the deputies in the coming weeks, first in the Internal Market Committee then in the Plenary setting.
Being member in France of the National Front for nearly 40 years, I am particularly attached to the rights of shooters whether they are hunters or sportsmen and to the rights of collectors of arms as long as the rules of security and the administrative authorizations are observed.
In the case that concerns you, I fully share your indignation. And that is why my colleagues in the National Front and I are firmly opposed to the ongoing reform that will not only reduce the rights of declared weapons holders, but will also be an example of technocratic absurdity. As a result of an ideology pushing to disarm citizens, this initiative of the European Commission, supported by several Governments is ridiculous and, I have no problem to admit that it will not bring any progress in the fight against Islamic terrorism. Once again, European leaders are choosing the wrong targets!
If most of the Members of the European Parliament (notably those belonging to the group of the European People's Party and to the Socialist & Democrat) are silent on the subject and do not oppose any resistance to the Commission, those of the National Front and its European allies within the Europe of Nations and Freedom group have taken the full measure of the issues raised by this file and carry strongly the voice of the honest citizens who wish to acquire and legally hold weapons but see their rights under threat.
I invite you to consult the interventions and activities of my colleague Mylène Troszczynski (National Front) who follows this issue very closely as a member of the parliamentary committee on the internal market. I can guarantee you that she’s very concerned by what is going on and committed to confront the views of the European institutions on this topic.
I ask you to believe, dear Sir, in my unwavering devotion to my compatriots whose interests are constantly being called into question by a crazy European Union,
Marie-Christine Arnautu
Member of the European Parliament
Member of the Europe of Nations and Freedom group
City councilor of Nice
